Explode to AutoCAD that Actually Works
http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/AutoCAD-Civil-3D-Wishes/Explode-to-AutoCAD-that-Actually-Works/td-p/2681794
So sometimes we need to give our files to people who don't use Civil 3D, and the Explode to AutoCAD function rarely works. Similarly, the e-transmit with "explode AEC objects" doesn't usually work, and the aecobjexplode command works about 1/2 the time. Often the Civil objects stay, and there's no real way to get rid of them short of manually exploding every one of them.

Autodesk - if you could please get at least one of these things to consistently work, it would be greatly appreciated. We're wasting a huge amount of time on manual explodings.

Hello jmatthei,
Just a thought, can these people getting your files install the C3D object
enabler?

They can, but they won't.

Not to mention the OE doesn't work with older AutoCAD versions...ie Civil 3D
2011 exported to AutoCAD 2010. There is no OE that will enable 2011 objects
in 2010 AutoCAD.

Too there are users/firms that may be able to consume DWG files outside of
Autocad. Their applications may not work with Object Enablers.

Thanks to everybody.

The problem seems to be in xrefed surfaces and pipe networks originally created in '08 and '09 - none of the methods (including the batch convert recommended by the last poster) seem to work for those.

On the bright side - all of the methods appear to work to explode cad files for projects that were started in '10. So perhaps this can be considered something that's (almost) fixed? If so, thank you Autodesk. Let's just hope when we upgrade to '11 the files started in '10 still explode properly.
